My point of view is simple- don’t let the world dictate what is appropriate for you- look to the Lord and His word. Young people should not trust their hormones to be their guide. Whenever we allow our hormones to decide where the boundaries should not be surprised when our flesh simply ‘sees nothing wrong’ with anything we feel like doing at the time.
Christians should be careful to:
1) Avoid even the appearance of evil.
2) Maintain the integrity of our witness to those who see us as examples.
3) Be salt and light in the world as a contrast to the darkness of the world.
4) Honor God with our physical being as temples of the Holy Spirit.
5) Trust that the Lord loves us and establishes boundaries that are purely and solely for good and not simply to spoil our fun.
6) Be careful of pitfalls that lead to regret and shame.
7) Be wise knowing that our will becomes weaker when the added chemical influences of hormonal secretions hit the blood stream and go straight to turn off the common sense and restraint sections of the brain.
If you are a Christian then date like one! Don’t put yourself in compromising situations where you will be tempted to violate your values and principles. Always suspect yourself and know that you are not beyond falling into sin. When hormones start flowing, even ‘good’ Christians will find themselves in over their heads. It has happened to thousands of others and can and will happen to you too if you are not careful. A good name is more precious than rubies according to the Bible-protect your good name. Hang out with your sweetheart in group settings or in atmospheres where you will be able to stay holy.
Kissing in modern language is generally referred to as ‘just kissing’. We add the ‘just as a way of diminishing something and making it seem more normal or natural. Kissing is one of the fastest ways to start the hormones flowing and your brain stops working about 5 seconds later! Keep your lips and hands to yourself-especially if you are even thinking about dating my daughters! I wear pointy toed cowboy boots and I am not afraid to use them.
The sexual relationship between a man and woman was God’s idea. He created it and went through a great deal of trouble to design it in such a way as to be good and pleasurable. There is no shame in the romantic love of a man and woman in the bonds of holy matrimony. Keep it holy and it will be worth the wait.
