A Christian take on ---‘Global Warming’

Christians believe that God put mankind on the earth in a stewardship or caretaker capacity. We were put here to use but not abuse the earth and that we will be eventually called on to give an account for our conduct during our lifetime in every capacity which will not exclude our individual role in the stewardship of the planet. We will give God an account for the use of our bodies, our minds, the keeping of our own souls, our relationships, social concerns and the manner in which we utilized the resources that God has entrusted to our use for good.

The Day of Judgment should make all mankind tremble because it is real and it is very much on the way. Some may turn their focus on this thing or that; the Christian is to take a comprehensive approach knowing that God is going to judge it all. While this is true and the Biblical perspective, the Christian is to prioritize in order of first concern, issues pertaining to the human soul from an eternal perspective. Christians should not be ‘unconcerned’ about issues regarding our temporary planet but MORE concerned about eternal souls. In most cases however, Christians and non-Christians alike, are much more likely to be primarily interested in having fun and making money than anything else!

There is little doubt these days that there are climate changes occurring. Some recon these changes to be of manmade causes and others consider them to be consistent with natural recurring cycles. I have my personal feelings on that but don’t consider that my opinion is relevant since I believe I should live my life in an identical fashion in either case.

Common sense dictates that as a Christian charged with planetary stewardship, we should endeavor to do our part in keeping the planet clean and healthy as possible. We should not put junk into the air that we know to be harmful. We should not dump garbage into the water or trash the land up with litter. If we know that certain products or procedures for doing things is better for our environment, we should simply do them.

On the other hand, we have a much bigger issue at hand that any kind of planetary environmental catastrophe to deal with. We are at this moment looking right down the barrel of the ‘Ultimate Global Warming’ issue- Armageddon.

When the nations of the earth converge and the biggest, bloodiest and nastiest war ever experienced in history occurs, there will be global warming and it won’t be gradual or in dispute. No one will wonder on that day or speculate as to its cause; global warming will be here and it will be very very hot.

The Bible makes it clear that the earth is going to deal with the fire of God’s judgment. As mankind has in general turned their back on God, God will turn His back as mankind brings annihilation on himself. God’s judgment is to not intervene and protect mankind from his own destruction.

2 Peter 3:7 “but the heavens that now are, and the earth, by the same word have been stored up for fire, being reserved against the Day of Judgment and destruction of ungodly men.”

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
Seeing that these things are thus all to be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy living and godliness,
looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the Day of God, by reason of which the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
But, according to his promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwells righteousness.
Wherefore, beloved, seeing that you look for these things, give diligence that you may be found in peace, without spot and blameless in his sight. (2 Peter 3:10-14)

Christians should take care of their bodies even though they know they will eventually die. They should also take of the earth, even though they know its end as well. But if you are going to make a big fuss about global warming and go out warning people about the doom to come- make sure you are warning people about the REAL DANGER of being on the wrong side of the Big global warming issue. When you tell me to beware of global warning that of course means to be sure I am right with God because the Day of Judgment is on the way.

One would have to be spiritually deaf, and blind to not see that the Bible prophecies are coming true every day right before our eyes! Israel is less than the Matanuska-Susitna Borough in size but it is right in the middle of the news every day with the storm clouds gathering on every side. It makes a great deal of sense therefore to sound the alarm for global warming! (If ya know what I mean…)
